Sovereign is proud to announce the release of Radu Jude’s acclaimed comedy DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THE END OF THE WORLD on digital platforms from 3rd June 2024.

Hot on the heels of his outrageous Berlinale Golden Bear-winning Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn, Romanian director Radu Jude’s DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THE END OF THE WORLD is, like his previous film, a brilliantly funny and mercilessly scathing satire on modern life, that Time Out describes as “a wild road trip through late capitalism", and that legendary director John Waters calls "a maddeningly radical, brilliant two-hour-and-43-minute Godard–meets–Harmony Korine Romanian masterpiece".

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2023 Locarno International Film Festival, the film stars Ilinca Manoclache as a world-weary production assistant travelling around Bucharest on a thankless casting assignment, which won her the Silver Hugo award for Best Performance at the Chicago International Film Festival 2023. True to form, Jude sets his absurdist comedic drama in two parts, in a dizzying landscape where cinema, capitalism and technology meet the political sociology of the post-totalitarian digital world.

Recalling the freewheeling experimentalism of the 1960s controversial classic art house films I Am Curious Yellow/Blue, and the blistering wit of Sovereign’s 2022 release Triangle of Sadness, Jude’s latest is an unclassifiable, wildly funny, unforgettable and totally unique viewing experience.

Synopsis:
Part One: We follow Angela, an overworked production assistant who must drive around the city of Bucharest in order to film the casting for a “safety at work” video commissioned by a multinational company, ostensibly to raise awareness among its own employees on the various dangers that lead to work related accidents. Soon she encounters Ovidiu, a half paralyzed worker, who gets the part.

Part Two: When Ovidiu reveals on camera that his work related accident is due to the company’s negligence, his statement ignites a scandal, which forces him to re-invent his story to suit the company’s narrative.

DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THE END OF THE WORLD will be available on Google, Sky, Microsoft, Virgin, Apple TV+, iTunes, Amazon, Curzon Home Player and Sovereign's Vimeo from 3rd June 2024
