Mitsuha (Mone Kamishiraishi) and Taki (Ryunosuke Kamiki) have never met, but when the frustrated country girl wishes of a life in the big city, they will forge a connection both unexplainable and unforgettable.

In their dreams, the two swap lives, cultures and genders as they learn more about, and grow closer to, each other. What was once a shock becomes a joy-filled double life, but what will happen when they discover the red string of fate tying them together?

We like it because:

Since its record-breaking release last year, audiences have eagerly anticipated the opportunity to take home a film so beloved and celebrated, with heavy praise emanating from even top critics like Robbie Collin and Mark Kermode.

Undeniably his greatest work yet, “Your Name” is a stunning resonance of visual, emotional and musical artistry painting the perfect culmination of themes nurtured throughout Shinkai’s filmography, like the impact of distance on young love in “5 Centimetres per Second” and the poetic dance of teen romance and science fiction in “The Place Promised in Our Early Days”, making this essential viewing for any Shinkai fan.

A true cultural phenomenon, the release of “Your Name” sparked increased tourism at key sites in its native Japan and led a renaissance of theatrical anime in the United Kingdom, introducing a wider audience to a growing subculture and the many talented creators within it.

Editor's Notes:

About Makoto Shinkai:
After making his debut in 1999 with the award-winning short “She & Her Cat”, Makoto Shinkai left his full-time job at video game developer Falcom to develop “Voices of a Distant Star” (2002), which he produced, wrote and directed himself.

Two years later, his first feature-length film “The Place Promised in our Early Days” was released to critical acclaim, launching a career that would be followed by the Miyazaki-esque fantasy “Children Who Chase Lost Voices” (released in the UK as “Journey to Agartha”), the emotional drama “The Garden of Words” and his first break-out mainstream success, “Your Name”.
