‘There’s no business like blow business’

A ‘narco’ is a drug lord, and Pablo Escobar was one of the most successful: beginning as a small-time black marketeer in Colombia, by the end of the 1970s he was the main supplier of cocaine to the US. He got rich on his illegal enterprise as cities like Miami and LA became addicted to the expensive party drug.

DEA agent Steve Murphy is sent to Colombia on a mission to catch Escobar. Partnered with local agent Javier Peña to help him have Escobar extradited, Murphy is plunged into the middle of a brutal and bloody drug war where one thing is clear – Escobar, aided by corrupt politicians, will stop at nothing to hold onto his power.

The first season of Narcos sees Murphy and Peña attempting to find enough incriminating evidence on Escobar to bring him down - while Escobar himself sees his audacious political ambitions shot down in flames when his criminal ties are exposed.

Just 10 episodes in and Narcos has already joined alongside television’s big dramatic heavyweights. It has the writing and character work to rival The Sopranos; gripping performances good enough for The Wire; fast-paced storytelling that’s as addictive as anything in Breaking Bad; and enough sex and murder to make even Game of Thrones blush.
