UK production company Bradford International Film Associates will unveil their debut feature film LIES WE TELL, this September, at London’s Leicester Square, for the 25th Raindance Film Festival.
Stars of Pulp Fiction and Miller’s Crossing are brought together for Mitu Misra’s unflinching British thriller about loyalty and revenge, a Northern Noir in the tradition of Mike Hodge’s Get Carter and Mike Figgis’ Stormy Monday.
Filmed in and around Bradford and Leeds, using the area’s historic buildings, canal mills, parks and cemeteries, LIES WE TELL showcases a unique part of the UK. The location for such classics of British cinema as Billy Liar and Room At The Top, Bradford - made UNESCO’s first ever City of Film in 2009 - is fast becoming a hotspot for film production, providing the backdrop for the likes of Peaky Blinders, and new TV series Gunpowder, with Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington. LIES WE TELL focuses on an as yet unexplored element of the city - it’s criminal underworld - that will prove an eye-opener for cinema audiences.
Says producer Andy McDermott: “It’s a real honour to be selected for Raindance, which has a reputation for showcasing exciting new talent. We think LIES WE TELL will fit in perfectly - we’ve got a terrific cast, and, behind the camera, Mitu Misra has come up with something really special for his first feature.”
Director Mitu Misra adds: “Not only did this great festival debut Christopher Nolan’s first film in the UK, it also had the UK premiere for our star Harvey Keitel’s Pulp Fiction back in 1994, so we’re in auspicious company”
When his billionaire boss Demi (Harvey Keitel) dies, chauffeur Donald (Gabriel Byrne) is given one final job - to wipe out any evidence of Demi’s relationship with his mistress, the enigmatic and beautiful Amber (Sibylla Deen). Donald’s task soon unravels when Amber’s life is threatened, and he finds himself her reluctant protector. Unwittingly drawn into a dangerous urban underworld, he encounters dark, harrowing practices, and a sinister underworld figure who will test him to his very limits.
LIES WE TELL is a unique, gritty thriller that portrays an ordinary man confronting extraordinary circumstances. The cast includes Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (IN TREATMENT, MILLER’S CROSSING), Oscar-nominated screen legend Harvey Keitel (PULP FICTION, RESERVOIR DOGS), Mark Addy (GAME OF THRONES, THE FULL MONTY), Nicholas Farrell (CHARIOTS OF FIRE), BAFTA-winner Gina McKee (OUR FRIENDS IN THE NORTH), Toyah Willcox (QUADROPHENIA), Emily Atack (THE INBETWEENERS), Sibylla Deen (HOME AND AWAY), and Jan Uddin (SHANK).
Some cast and crew will be attending RAINDANCE and will be available for interview.
LIES WE TELL WILL BE RELEASED IN THE UK IN FEBRUARY 2018
