Fast sell:

The Office meets Shaun Of The Dead with a horror twist in Bloodsucking Bosses, a film for anyone who’s ever felt like their job is sucking the life from them.

Starring Fran Kanz of The Cabin in the Woods and with a show-stealing performance from Cabin Fever’s Joey Kern, Bloodsucking Bosses got a rapturous reception at 2015’s Film 4 FrightFest - where it was titled Bloodsucking Bastards - thanks to an on-point and hilarious screenplay from debut writer Ryan Mitt and enough splatter to keep gore hounds happy.

Key talent:

Fran Kanz (The Cabin in the Woods)
Pedro Pascal (Narcos, Game of Thrones, The Mentalist)
Joey Kern (Cabin Fever, Super Troopers)
Joel Murray (Mad Men, God Bless America)
Emma Fitzpatrick (The Social Network, The Collection)

Synopsis:

Evan (Fran Kanz) is in a rut. He’s over-worked in a soul-destroying sales job and he’s just been dumped his girlfriend Amanda (Emma Fitzpatrick), who also happens to be his HR manager. To add insult to injury, his boss (Joel Murray) has just passed him over for promotion and parachuted in Max (Pedro Pascal), Evan’s college nemesis.

Soon after Max’s arrival, people begin acting strangely and the bodies start piling up, but Evan is initially too preoccupied with himself to notice. When he eventually catches on that Max is a bloodsucker in the very literal sense, he bands together his slacker best friend Tim (Joey Kern) and the remaining humans to rescue Amanda and save their careers from hitting an (un)dead end.

We like it because:

At some point we’ve all had a terrible office job that we’ve sworn would be the death of us, and Bloodsucking Bosses captures that feeling perfectly. Ryan Mitt’s witty screenplay encapsulates the modern workplace in a similar way to The Office or Office Space - with added fangs and a healthy splash of gore.

The performances are spot-on too, showing us the characters we’ve all worked with. Fran Kanz’s Evan is the epitome of the put-upon employee who plugs away at a job that gives him little satisfaction and zero recognition, while Joey Kern’s Tim is the ultimate slacker who just wants to show up, get paid and play video games — and not necessarily in that order. Meanwhile Pedro Pascal’s Max is the obnoxious office creep that most of us have had breathing down our necks at one time or another and, if we’re truly honest, wouldn’t have surprised us if they’d turned out to be an undead fiend.

Best of all for a horror-comedy, when the action picks up the pace the gore is pitched perfectly with the jokes, giving us a beer-and-pizza movie that has us laughing and balking in equal measure.
