“Like Die Hard meets 24 by way of Taken”

Slash Film
Out on:DVD 12th Jan. 2015

Fast sell:

Anyone who likes Die Hard or Taken (so, pretty much everyone, then) will get a big kick out of Sleepless Night, a single-location action-spectacular that redefines the genre.

An original plot - that puts a new twist on corrupt cops, kidnapped kids and missing drugs - results in an edge-of-the-seat race-against-time thriller.

Key talent:

Frédéric Jardin, Director (Braquo, Spiral)
Tomer Sisley (We’re The Millers)
Serge Riaboukine (Angel-A)
Julien Bossieller (SMS)
Joey Starr (Polisse)

Synopsis:

Vincent (Tomer Sisley) is a cop with connections a vicious criminal underworld. He and his partner steal a batch of cocaine from a powerful drug baron, but Vincent is identified in the heist. The gangsters kidnap Vincent’s son to hold him hostage until he returns their stolen goods, but he no longer has them.

Sleepless Night is a feverish action movie with a twist: all the action takes place in a nightclub in the space of one hectic, breathless night. Wounded from the heist and losing blood, Vincent must battle his way through the maze-like club, with danger at every turn and overcome impossible odds to save his son.

We like it because:

It’s insanely fast-paced with an exciting plot carried by charismatic and compelling performances which remain engaging even as we’re distracted by amazing set-piece after amazing set-piece.

With the best kitchen-fight action-scene of the year and a wide-variety of original chase sequences - including one shot in first-person - Sleepless Night is everything an action-fan could ever want.

Oh, and it looks great - it’s shot by Clint Eastwood’s frequent cinematographer Tom Stern.

One piece of advice though, maybe don’t watch it after midnight - the adrenaline rush really will keep you up all night!
