Synopsis:

Newcomers to the remote Australian desert town of Nathgari, Catherine (Nicole Kidman) and Matthew Parker's (Joseph Fiennes) lives are flung into crisis when they discover their two teenage kids, Tommy (Nicholas Hamilton) and Lily (Maddison Brown), have mysteriously disappeared just before a massive dust storm hits.

With Nathgari eerily smothered in red dust and darkness, the townsfolk join the search led by local cop, David Rae (Hugo Weaving). It soon becomes apparent that something terrible may have happened to the children.

Suspicion is cast, rumours spread and the town begins to turn against the Parkers. With temperatures rising and the chances of survival plummeting with each passing day, Catherine and Matthew find themselves pushed to the brink as they struggle to survive the mystery of their children's fate.

We like it because:

It’s rare for an independent production to feature such high calibre acting talent, but Strangerland boasts not one, but three powerhouse performances from Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes and Hugo Weaving.
Kidman delivers another landmark performance, proving once again why she’s one of cinema’s most consistent and magnetic leading stars. Meanwhile Fiennes and Weaving bring real dramatic gravitas with their grounded and measured performances.
The film also looks incredible, as director Kim Farrant uses the vast and blistering Australia to add an even greater sense of the unknown to the story, following in the footsteps of eerie Australian thrillers such as Walkabout, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and Wake in Fright.
At its dark heart though, Strangerland is a gripping mystery with complex characters, a tense atmosphere, and shocking revelations – a thriller that will keep you guessing throughout.
