|Out on:||Blu-Ray 21st Jan. 2019|
When it comes to George Cukor, you know you’re getting smart, witty comedy, social commentary, and romance - and Born Yesterday delivers on all fronts. Featuring an Oscar-winning turn from Judy Holliday, a beautiful High Definition presentation and all the bells and whistles you’d expect from Arrow Academy, this Blu-ray will start your New Year off the right way.
George Cukor (My Fair Lady, The Philadelphia Story, A Star is Born)
Judy Holliday (Bells Are Ringing, Adam’s Rib)
Broderick Crawford (All The King’s Men, Larceny Inc.)
William Holden (Network, The Bridge on the River Kwai)
We like it because:
When it comes to George Cukor’s filmography, Born Yesterday sometimes gets a bit overshadowed by the likes of My Fair Lady, The Philadelphia Story, A Star is Born, Gaslight and several of his other well-known films. So it’s a delight to see Born Yesterday get the Arrow Academy treatment, with a High Definition presentation transferred from original film elements, and a host of brand new special features.
It’s also wonderful to see Judy Holliday’s Oscar-winning performance get the limelight it deserves after her Hollywood career was tragically cut short by her untimely death in 1965. Her role as Billie Dawn is a career-best, playing the “dumb blonde” with hidden smarts - a role Holliday knew all too well as her own ditzy image belied her high IQ. Funny, poignant and, above all, clever, Holliday’s performance is simply dazzling.
With the full package we’ve come to expect from Arrow Academy, Born Yesterday is a hilarious and romantic film that’s perfect for chasing away the January Blues.
