ARROW GETS DEMENTED

IN OCTOBER, PREMIERES A HORROR FILM LIKE NO OTHER, HALLOWEEN TREATS, A TEXAS CHAINSAW DOC AND FRENCH COP ACTION!

ARROW is now available on Xbox

Key highlights this OCTOBER on the essential, alternative streaming service ARROW include the exclusive premiere of Chad Crawford Kinkle’s groundbreaking horror DEMENTER, and Halloween treats in the form of 80s slasher rediscovery DEATH SCREAMS, a documentary on the classic THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, a pair of chilling CHILDREN OF THE CORN sequels, as well as ghosts, ghouls, vampires, Charles Manson and so much more...

Acclaimed director of indie horror hit Jug Face (aka The Pit), Chad Crawford Kinkle, returns with DEMENTER, a psychological horror thriller branded as “an unexpected gem” (Pophorror.com) and "an impressionistic, poetic occult-horror film" (Nashville Scene). Raw and unsettling, DEMENTER is a brave and unflinching story of lives lived on the fringes of society, and a battle with demons inside and out. Shot on real locations with many non-actors playing versions of themselves – including Kinkle’s real life sister Stephanie – this is a deeply personal genre film with an emotional punch that lingers long after the credits have rolled. The film will be streaming with a host of brand new extras that illuminate the making of this uniquely innovative horror.

ARROW is delivering the goods for the month of Halloween, and then some, with the return of “He Who Walks Behind The Rows” in the chilling sequels CHILDREN OF THE CORN Parts II and III; the definitive documentary on one of the greatest horror films ever made, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE SHOCKING TRUTH; and a rediscovered and restored 80s slasher gem, DEATH SCREAMS arriving with extras. ARROW is also proud to present the definitive restored edition of one of the most famous of all silent movies, F. W. Murnau’s NOSFERATU, a film that continues to haunt — and, indeed, terrify — modern audiences with a waking nightmare that changed cinema history forever.
For those in need of a gritty crime fix, ARROW is showing Seasons 3 and 4 of the acclaimed no-holds-barred French cop series BRAQUO, with Caplan (the terrific Jean-Hughes Anglade) and his team of rogue cops out for some serious vengeance.
ALSO SHOWING: An eye-opening documentary on the infamous video nasties era; creepy Deep South thriller THE NEIGHBOUR; Jim Van Bebber’s shocking true crime epic THE MANSON FAMILY; Takashi Miike’s THE GREAT YOKAI WAR; the satanic mayhem of Lucio Fulci’s DEMONIA, and more...

Meanwhile in Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, the well meaning locals of nearby Hemingford adopt the children who survived the original terror, but all is not as it seems. A new harvest is about to begin. Finally, Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest brings terror to the big city, as two orphaned boys from Gatlin are taken into foster care in Chicago, where He Who Walks Behind the Rows begins to walk again!

OCTOBER TITLES - IN DEPTH

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE OCTOBER 1st:
DEMENTER

Acclaimed director of indie horror hit JUG FACE (aka The Pit), Chad Crawford Kinkle, returns with DEMENTER, a psychological horror thriller branded as “an unexpected gem” (Pophorror.com) and "an impressionistic, poetic occult-horror film" (Nashville Scene).

Fleeing from a cult that has left her scarred both physically and mentally, Katie (Katie Groshong, Jug Face, A Measure of the Sin) is keen to get her life together. On her path to recovery, she takes a job in a care centre supporting adults with special needs, among them Stephanie (Stephanie Kinkle), a woman with Down syndrome. Convinced that the “devils” are coming for Stephanie, and tormented by flashbacks of her experience within the cult and with their leader Larry (Larry Fessenden, The Dead Don’t Die, Habit), Katie takes increasingly extreme measures to ward off the evil that is making Stephanie sick. But what if her rituals are doing more harm than good?

Raw and unsettling, DEMENTER is a brave and unflinching story of lives lived on the fringes of society, and a battle with demons inside and out. Shot on real locations with many non-actors playing versions of themselves – including Kinkle’s real life sister Stephanie – this is a deeply personal genre film with an emotional punch that lingers long after the credits have rolled.

OCTOBER 1: BAN THE SADIST VIDEOS

An in-depth analysis of the "Video Nasty" scandal of the early 1980s in Britain.

OCTOBER 1: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE SHOCKING TRUTH

The making of a cult classic. A documentary on the filming and release of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre featuring Tobe Hooper, Marilyn Burns, Gunnar Hansen and more.

OCTOBER 1: BRAQUO SEASON 3 [TV]

With Theo between life and death, Caplan and his team are in shock. What's left of the squad is even more shattered than before, trying their best to cope with the situation. Thirsty for revenge and for recognition alike, the rogue cops still have a job to do: a major traffic orchestrated by a powerful Eastern mafia has to be stopped.

Eddy, Roxanne and Walter are thrown in the middle of a dreadful gang war between Russian-speaking mobsters. As for Vogel, he patiently awaits in the shadows, ready to strike at the best possible moment to get rid of Caplan. For good.

OCTOBER 1: BRAQUO SEASON 4 [TV]

All eight episodes from the fourth season of Olivier Marchal's French police thriller. The series follows a group of police officers led by Eddy Caplan (Jean-Hugues Anglade) who use violent and unorthodox methods in their criminal investigations.

When this is brought to the attention of Internal Affairs, the department is faced with the difficult and dangerous task of exposing the group's methods and putting a stop to them.

OCTOBER 2nd: NOSFERATU

In this first-ever screen adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the iconic film of the German expressionist cinema, a simple real-estate transaction leads an intrepid businessman deep into the superstitious heart of Transylvania. There he encounters the otherworldly Count Orlok — portrayed by the legendary Max Schreck, in a performance the very backstory of which has spawned its own mythology — who soon after embarks upon a cross-continental voyage to take up residence in a distant new land… and establish his ambiguous dominion. As to whether the count’s campaign against the plague-wracked populace erupts from satanic decree, erotic compulsion, or the simple impulse of survival — that remains, perhaps, the greatest mystery of all in this film that’s like a blackout…

Remade by Werner Herzog in 1979 (and inspiring films as diverse as Abel Ferrara’s King of New York and The Addiction, and E. Elias Merhige’s Shadow of the Vampire), F. W. Murnau’s surreal 1922 cine-fable remains the original and landmark entry in the entire global tradition of “the horror film”. ARROW is proud to present, newly restored, NOSFERATU in its definitive restoration, complete with original intertitles and accompanied by the score that played with the film at the time of its initial release.
OCTOBER 8th: THE NEIGHBOUR

Set in Cutter, Mississippi, THE NEIGHBOUR follows two small-time drug-traffickers, John (Josh Stewart) and Rosie (Alex Essoe), who operate a weigh station next door to their creepy neighbour, Troy, a widower struggling to raise his two sons.

Planning to leave their dark career behind, John and Rosie decide to double-cross their boss, but when John returns home after obtaining enough getaway cash, he finds Rosie missing. Seeing her telescope pointing at their neighbour’s farmhouse, he elects to investigate, but soon discovers a terrifying and sinister secret...

OCTOBER 8th: THE MANSON FAMILY

It has been hailed as "amazingly disturbing" (Dread Central), "extreme and uncompromised" (Roger Ebert) and "one of the best true crime films ever made" (DVD Talk). Now from the punishing mind of writer/producer/director Jim Van Bebber comes his epic of hallucinatory horror like you've never seen it before: This is the ultimate account of Charles Manson and his followers, a blood-soaked saga that takes you from their drug-fueled orgies, to their grisly massacres, and into the legacy of depravity that survives today. It is a singular vision of nihilistic evil that remains alarmingly original, unapologetically graphic and shockingly real. These are the most infamous crimes of our time as depicted by one of the most dangerous underground filmmakers of all time. This is THE MANSON FAMILY.

OCTOBER 8th: 100 MONSTERS

A greedy slumlord’s attempts to forcefully evict his tenants invite the wrath of the titular spirits when a cleansing ritual is botched, with terrifying results.

OCTOBER 8th: ALONG WITH GHOSTS

The yokai are roused to defend a young girl on the run from deadly yakuza.

OCTOBER 8th: THE GREAT YOKAI WAR

Decades later, none other than Takashi Miike (Audition) helmed THE GREAT YOKAI WAR, a loose remake of Spook Warfare that used cutting-edge digital effects to renew the franchise for a new generation. In it, a young boy is given a grave responsibility: to band together with a group of yokai to defend humanity against a vengeful and powerful demon that has sworn retribution against modern-day Japan.

OCTOBER 8th: SPOOK WARFARE

SPOOK WARFARE tells the tale of an evil Babylonian vampire inadvertently awoken by treasure hunters, and a brave samurai that teams with the yokai to defeat the bloodthirsty demon.

OCTOBER 11th: DEMONIA

Godfather of Gore Lucio Fulci returns to the startling imagery and bloody excesses of his '70s/'80s classics for an unholy saga of demonic nuns and supernatural carnage: When a Canadian archeological team begins excavating the ruins of a medieval Sicilian monastery, they will unleash the vengeance of a crucified coven of satanic sisters with full-on Fulci fury.

OCTOBER 11th: VAMPYR

The first sound-film by one of the greatest of all filmmakers, VAMPYR offers a sensual immediacy that few, if any, works of cinema can claim to match. Legendary director Carl Theodor Dreyer leads the viewer, as though guided in a trance, through a realm akin to a waking-dream, a zone positioned somewhere between reality and the supernatural.

Traveller Allan Gray (arrestingly depicted by Julian West, aka the secretive real-life Baron Nicolas de Gunzburg) arrives at a countryside inn seemingly beckoned by haunted forces. His growing acquaintance with the family who reside there soon opens up a network of uncanny associations between the dead and the living, of ghostly lore and demonology, which pull Gray ever deeper into an unsettling, and upsetting, mystery. At its core: troubled Gisèle, chaste daughter and sexual incarnation, portrayed by the great, cursed Sybille Schmitz (Diary of a Lost Girl, and inspiration for Fassbinder’s Veronika Voss.) Before the candles of VAMPYR exhaust themselves, Allan Gray and the viewer alike come eye-to-eye with Fate — in the face of dear dying Sybille, in the blasphemed bodies of horrific bat-men, in the charged and mortal act of asphyxiation — eye-to-eye, then, with Death — the supreme vampire.

OCTOBER 18th: CHILDREN OF THE CORN II: THE FINAL SACRIFICE

The ultimate adult nightmare returns!

After the bloody secrets in the town of Gatlin are uncovered, the locals of neighbouring Hemingford decide to adopt the surviving children and give them a fresh start in life. However, “He Who Walks Behind The Rows” has other plans…

After becoming possessed by a demonic force, local teen, Micah begins to rally the youth of the town regaling them with the teachings of “He Who Walks Behind The Rows” and encouraging them to rise up and eradicate the grownups by any means possible…

As harrowing as the original and serving up a fresh crop of inventive kills and carnage, CHILDREN OF THE CORN II: THE FINAL SACRIFICE is a noteworthy early 90s slasher classic and a welcome addition to the CHILDREN OF THE CORN franchise.

OCTOBER 18th: CHILDREN OF THE CORN III: URBAN HARVEST

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the cornfields…

When two orphaned teen brothers from the infamous town of Gatlin head to the city of Chicago they are welcomed with open arms by their new adoptive parents, the Porters, who are excited to build a life together.

However, things soon start to unravel when it becomes clear that the youngest of the two, Eli, is a dedicated disciple of “He Who Walks Behind The Rows.” After planting a crop of mysterious corn - which leads to a bountiful harvest growing almost instantly - Eli soon coverts his high school classmates to become his deadly disciples. These big city folks aren’t prepared for the evil that will now befalls them…

The third feature in the CHILDREN OF THE CORN franchise, CHILDREN OF THE CORN III: URBAN HARVEST is another chilling chapter that sees Charlize Theron (Atomic Blonde) Ivana Miličević (Casino Royale) and Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) making their feature film debuts. Let the harvest begin…

OCTOBER 22nd: DEATH SCREAMS

In one of the most unlikely cinematic pairings of all time, David Nelson (who rose to fame as a child star playing alongside his real-life family in the wholesome TV show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet) directs Playboy Playmate and adult star Susan Kiger in this bodycount-heavy, long overlooked slice of Southern fried hack-and-slash - 1982’s DEATH SCREAMS!

Late one night, a young couple are brutally murdered at a make-out spot by an unseen assailant, their bodies tossed into the nearby river. As the lifeless lovers drift slowly downstream, the residents of the town excitedly prepare themselves for their annual carnival, unaware that a machete-wielding maniac with a twisted grudge is lurking in their midst. When a group of teen revellers plan a late-night after party down in the local cemetery, they unwittingly set the stage for a bloodbath.

Death Screams, which was released on US VHS as House of Death (and on UK DVD with the reels in the wrong order!) oozes early ’80s regional slasher charm from its every pore, boasting an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink final reel featuring slashed throats, bisected bodies and exploding heads. At long last lovingly restored from the only-known existing 35mm print, this little-seen slasher classic is ready to carve its way into the bleeding hearts of horror fans everywhere!
