Arrow Video Channel - December

ARROW VIDEO CHANNEL VISITS TINSELTOWN!

DEBUTING THIS DECEMBER ON ARROW VIDEO CHANNEL: THE EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE OF THE BLOODHOUND, CRONENBERG’S CRASH, JAPANESE NEW WAVE, KILLER KIDS, SNOWBOUND SHOCKERS AND MORE!
Out on:VOD 1st Dec. 2020

ARROW VIDEO CHANNEL is the passion-driven film platform giving film fans the opportunity to watch a curated selection of movies that the Arrow Video brand is famous for.

On December 1st, the Arrow Video Channel is premiering the brand new horror mystery from a devilishly talented debut director, THE BLOODHOUND, as well as an unmissable selection of brand new additions to the channel.

A creepy and intense story of the insidious and dangerous effects of isolation on a damaged mind, The Bloodhound, a remarkably assured first feature from writer/director Patrick Picard, is a unique and stylish take on Edgar Allan Poe’s gothic classic, The Fall of The House of Usher.

Claustrophobic, Kubrickian, and elegantly constructed, The Bloodhound is as if Wes Anderson had made The Shining. Set in a single location - an elegant and foreboding house that recalls the architectural character of Parasite - the characters become bound within its glass walls. With touches of cult genre hits Ex Machina and After Midnight, The Bloodhound is short, sharp and highly unsettling - the perfect slow-burning chamber piece for the lockdown era.

You can see it on the Arrow Video Channel - the home for weird and wild cult classics, newly-restored gems, and genre favourites, available on Amazon Prime Video.

Also showing on the Arrow Video Channel from December 1st:

CRASH (UK)
Technology and sexuality meet in a head-on collision in Crash – director David Cronenberg’s stunning and hypnotic tour de force starring James Spader and Holly Hunter, a highly controversial adaptation of writer J.G. Ballard’s hugely transgressive 1973 novel. Awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival for originality, daring and audacity, Crash remains an incredibly subversive and confrontational piece of cinema – Cronenberg himself describes it as “a dangerous film”.

ARROW EXCLUSIVE
SURVIVOR BALLADS: THREE FILMS BY SHOHEI IMAMURA (UK/US/CA)

Throughout the 1980s, Shohei Imamura (The Pornographers, Profound Desires of the Gods), a leading figure of the Japanese New Wave era of the 1960s, cemented his international reputation as one of the most important directors of his generation with a series of films that all competed at Cannes to great critical acclaim. This exclusive season presents restored versions of three late career classics - Black Rain, The Ballad of Narayama and Zegen - from the legendary filmmaker which epitomise his almost documentary style of filmmaking, exposing the vulgar yet vibrant and instinctive underbelly of Japanese society.

RARE EXPORTS (US/CA)
It's the eve of Christmas in northern Finland, and an 'archeological' dig has just unearthed the real Santa Claus. But this particular Santa isn't the one you want coming to town. When the local children begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter by trade, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig. Santa's elves, however, will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity. What ensues is a wildly humorous nightmare – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a re-imagining of the most classic of all childhood fantasies, and is a darkly comic gem soon to be required perennial holiday viewing.

Showing from December 7th:

SHOGUN’S JOYS OF TORTURE (UK/US/CA)
From the outrageous imagination of cult director Teruo Ishii (Orgies of Edo, Horrors of Malformed Men) comes this infamous omnibus of three shocking tales of crime and punishment based on true-life documented cases set during the reign of the Tokugawa shogunate. Shogun’s Joy of Torture set a new benchmark for the depiction of sex, sadism and depravity in Japanese exploitation, with Ishii staging his elaborate torture methods with an unmatched verve and inventiveness.

Showing from December 11th:

AGFA COLLECTION Vol 2 (US/CA)
Formed in 2009, the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit located in Austin, Texas. AGFA exists to preserve the legacy of genre movies through collection, conservation, and distribution. Additions to the channel include a pair of extraordinary gonzo action flicks straight out of Uganda, Bad Black and Who Killed Captain Alex; little seen Texas Halloween horror gem Scary Movie; restored girl-gang exploitation thriller The Violent Years, written by Ed Wood; and the hysterical anti-drug cautionary tale classic Reefer Madness.
