Synopsis:

Season five begins with Ivar the Boneless asserting his leadership over the Great Heathen Army, while Lagertha reigns as Queen of Kattegat. Ivar’s murder of his brother Sigurd sets the stage for vicious battles to come as Ragnar’s sons plot their next moves after avenging their father’s death. Bjorn follows his destiny into the Mediterranean Sea and Floki who is suffering from the loss of his wife Helga, takes to the seas submitting himself to the will of the Gods. This season is full of startling alliances and unbelievable betrayals as the Vikings fight to rule the world.

We like it because:

Season five of the magnificent action adventure series, set in the merciless and menacing world of Norsemen and women, is full of startling alliances and unbelievable betrayals as the Vikings fight to rule the world. It’s packed with the sort of stirring spectacle and delicious intrigue fans of the show have come to expect.

Series regulars Gustaf Skarsgård (Westworld) as Floki, Katheryn Winnick (The Dark Tower), as the fearsome, sword-wielding Lagertha, and Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games) as Bjorn, are joined by screen legend Jonathan Rhys Meyers, whose character appeared in the series four finale. No stranger to period spectacles after his dazzling turns in The Tudors and Dracula, Rhys Meyers lights up the screen as Bishop Heahmund, a religious warrior that series creator Michael Hirst describes as a ‘wild card’ who promises plenty of berserk battlefield action.

The tantalising blend of Norse history and myth continues to weave its utterly compelling spell, with magnificent scenery, shock character comebacks and reveals, grand and gruesome battle scenes, and a cliff- hanging mid-season finale, this is a binge-watch bonanza for lovers of raw and robust historical drama.
